HIKING IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Living in South Australia was fun. Wine tasting in Barossa Valley, a long walk in Glenelg, strawberry picking in Hahndorf and going hiking are things I like to do on my free time. With tons of nature retreats to choose, I usually opt to go for a hike for my weekend getaway. So if you're thinking to go for a hike in South Australia, I'd like to share my favourite hiking spots, ranging from easy to difficult hike :)
1. Saint Mary Peak
Ngarri Mudlanha (the native name of St. Mary Peak) is probably the most fun (and the most difficult) hike I ever did in South Australia. 3,842 feet, 9.5km, in five hours back and forth. I went on this hike during a camping trip with my friends from uni (and someone from Gumtree lol) during Easter holiday in Flinders Ranges. So Saint Mary Peak is the highest peak in Flinders Ranges. To get there, we rent two cars and camping gears (camper van) from Campervan the Wicked Camper in Adelaide and drove for five hours-ish from Adelaide CBD to the camping site. The hike to the top was pretty difficult but the view was totally worth it. When I said difficult, expect lots of bushes, long and steep hike, and sharp rocks. After the hike, we were lucky enough to witness the Blood Moon from our camping site.
2. Morialta Falls
This bushwalker's paradise is located in Morialta Conservation Park, South Australia. It is an easy to moderate 4km hike which can take up to 2hours to hike. I feel like not a lot of people go here to hike. You don't have to do any rock climbing whatsoever to reach the top so it's totally doable for beginners. The last time I went there I spotted a sleepy koala hanging on a tree.
3. Mount Lofty

4. Waterfall Gully
This hiking spot is actually located really close to Mount Lofty. As a matter of fact, one of the hiking trails of Mount Lofty starts from Waterfall Gully. The hike is pretty easy, you got to see a scenic waterfall at the bottom and a view of the city on the way up. Unfortunately when I was there the waterfall doesn't really have water in it as the last time I hiked there was in summer.
